The Hyundai IONIQ 5 N continues to impress, flexing its capabilities at this year's Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, setting a new record in both the Electric Modified and Production SUV/Crossover categories.

Held last June 23, 2024, two IONIQ 5 N TA Spec models and one production model completed the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC). All three models tackled a demanding 20 km course, climbing over 1,438 meters to the summit of Pikes Peak. They navigated 156 turns and braved unpredictable weather and high-altitude conditions, which posed challenges to both drivers and vehicles.

The IONIQ 5 N TA Spec, piloted by Hyundai World Rally driver Dani Sordo, completed the race in 9:30.852, clinching victory in the exhibition class. Another TA Spec, driven by Randy Pobst, finished with a time of 9:55.551.

Though it might look radically different from its production version, Hyundai says, the IONIQ 5 N TA Spec is crafted to showcase the strengths of the production-spec IONIQ 5 N with minimal modifications. Aside from minor software tuning to boost maximum motor output and the addition of high-performance parts such as new shock absorbers, motorsport-spec brakes, and slick tires, the TA Spec largely retains the features offered to regular customers by the production IONIQ 5 N.

On the other hand, Ron Zaras, a PPIHC rookie and automotive media personality, piloted the IONIQ 5 N production model to a finish time of 10:49.2

“We are absolutely thrilled to set a new record at Pikes Peak and our performance overall. Going forward, we plan to continue leveraging exciting motorsports activities such as Pikes Peak to showcase the superior performance of our mass-produced vehicles and continue to develop technology that not only meets customer needs but exceeds their expectations.”

After its successful outing at Pikes Peak, Hyundai announced plans to introduce additional "special specification models" similar to the Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup Car racer and the aforementioned Ioniq 5 N TA Spec, aiming to expand the realm of EV motorsports.

We’re excited to see how Hyundai further develops its EV technology in both motorsport and on the road. Has Hyundai’s recent achievements got you interested in the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 5 N? You can take a look at their specs and prices on
